I woke up flying through the air!
I was spinning faster and faster until—THUD! I crash-landed into something soft.
Dizzy, I shook my head and looked around. That’s when I realized I had crashed into…a dog.
At least, I thought it was a dog.
To my left, the dog’s head was lying in the grass. To my right, its body was stuck in a tree. “Oh no! I knocked its head off!” I thought, panicking.
But when I got closer, I saw something strange. The head wasn’t real—it was a costume. And underneath it, standing on two legs, was a squirrel.
I know what you’re thinking: A squirrel in a dog costume? But it gets even weirder.
The squirrel looked at me with wide eyes and whispered, “Please, don’t blow my cover! I’ll do anything!”
I blinked, trying to understand what just happened. Before I could say anything, the squirrel added, “I can help you! Just don’t tell anyone about this.”
Still feeling confused, I told him, “I’m just trying to get back home.”
His eyes lit up. “Home? I can help! But you’ll need to blend in.” He reached into his bag and pulled out another dog costume, complete with floppy ears and a wagging tail.
“Here, put this on,” he said. “No one will know the difference.”
I hesitated but needed his help, so I put on the costume and followed him deeper into the forest.
He introduced himself as The Imposter, a former agent of the Squirrel Intelligence Unit (SIU). His mission was to spy on the dogs in Wagging Wonderland—a place completely run by dogs—and gather information for the squirrels. “But,” he said, “after spending time with the dogs, I realized they weren’t our enemies.”
He told me how he was taught his whole life that dogs were dangerous and couldn’t be trusted. But when he got to know them, he discovered they were loyal, loving, and made everyone feel joy.
“Sometimes, the truth is more magical than any story we’re told,” he said. “I didn’t want to leave, so I stayed here, pretending to be a dog because I wanted to be part of their world.”
As we made our way through the forest, dodging playful Boxers who loved to box, and sneaking past Feebie, the police dog, I started to like The Imposter. Even though he was pretending to be a dog, he found something special here in Wagging Wonderland.
He told me about a legendary item hidden in the forest called the Wish Bone. If you found it, you could make one wish, and it would come true. The Imposter believed I could use it to wish myself back home to my parents.
I felt a spark of hope. Could this really be my way home?
After days of searching, we finally reached the heart of the forest. There, sitting on a tree stump surrounded by glowing flowers, was the Wish Bone. It looked like a regular bone, but I could feel the magic in it.
I held the Wish Bone in my paws, my heart racing. I could wish myself home right now. I could see my parents again.
But then I looked at The Imposter. His eyes were filled with love—not for himself, but for the new community he found in Wagging Wonderland. He stayed because he had discovered something real: the dogs’ loyalty and kindness.
In that moment, I realized maybe this adventure wasn’t just about finding my way back to my parents. Maybe there was more to it. I had the chance to make things better here.
So instead of wishing for myself, I held the Wish Bone and wished for peace between the dogs and squirrels. I wished for trust and friendship where there was once fear.
As soon as I made the wish, a golden light spread through the forest, wrapping around the trees, flowers, and even the dogs. Slowly, dogs and squirrels started to gather. For the first time, they played together—no more hiding, no more pretending. Just real friendship.
The Imposter was amazed as the dogs welcomed him with wagging tails. For the first time, he didn’t need his costume. He could be himself and still belong.
As I watched them, my heart filled with peace. Maybe I wasn’t going home yet, but I had made a home for The Imposter and his friends.
Tomorrow, the compass will glow again, taking me to another world. I don’t know where I’ll end up, but I’m not as scared as I usually am.
Tonight, as I make my SticKit, I’ll be thinking about the joy I left here and the love, loyalty, and friendship I’m taking with me.
Your friend,
Nova Star
